I basically agree with what Piotr Kazynski from CEPS said regarding Jerzy Buzek, the first European Parliament President from Eastern Europe.
But I have a more critical view. On two different occasions, I had exchanges in press rooms with President Buzek, and each time I challenged him for siding with one camp – first, with Eastern European countries against the West, then for being the advocate of his political group the EPP.
Yes, he is a political president. But let’s imagine another Parliament President advocating for Western Europe. Or for a smaller political group. It would look weird, and I don’t even imagine it happening.
